Embracing the New Year
As the calendar turns to 2026, the way in which I embrace the energy and possibilities that come with it has evolved over the years. I’ve discovered the value in reflection and intentional living, a practice that has transformed my perspective on resolutions.
In my early 20’s, my husband and I would create a “Top 10 List,” a tradition that included both practical projects and fun adventures. However, as life evolved with the arrival of our children, the list became a source of stress rather than inspiration. As we neared the end of the year, the unchecked items felt like failures, despite the year’s many successes. This realization led me to abandon the list-making tradition in favor of a more reflective approach.
The Power of Reflection
Today, I use the New Year as an opportunity to ask myself key questions:
- What worked well last year?
- What experiences brought me joy and alignment?
- How can I make time for more of those moments in the coming year?
This introspective practice allows me to recommit to the activities that bring me peace and happiness, such as working out, eating fresh foods, and spending time outdoors.
A Family Affair
I’ve extended this reflective practice to my family, encouraging my children and husband to share their favorite moments from the past year. Together, we discuss how to incorporate more of what we love into the year ahead. This collaborative approach creates a sense of unity and shared purpose, making the new year a time of connection and growth.
As I embrace the new year with a focus on reflection and intentional living, I invite you to do the same. By asking meaningful questions and prioritizing what truly matters, we can all create a year filled with joy, peace, and fulfillment.
